For this activity, the focal point of the former twinning project, several specific tools were achieved in order to implement Natura 2000:
- Preparation of management plans for 5 pilot sites from the West Region,
- Preparation of a methodological guideline as a support for the site manager to prepare his own management plan,
- Recommendation for an habitat notebook as a support for the site manager to identify and to protect – to manage different natural habitats and species,
- Recommendation for an organization plan in order to manage the sites network,
- Preparation of the assessment methods for the implementation and its results,
- Training for of a group of future Romanian trainers for Natura 2000.
For this second twinning the following aspects have to be treated:
- Assessment of the present situation in Romanian regarding the setting of Natura 2000 network ,
- Training sessions according to the needs of the REPA and LEPA staff or other possible beneficiaries, based on :
• Incidence assessments for the impact studies on activity projects on Natura 2000 sites, with case studies, especially on quarries and forest management,
• Identification of habitats and species on the sites (focus on inventory programs, financing priorities, support for incidence assessment …),
• Data basis fauna/flora/habitats connected to the GIS
