The objectives of the former twinning were:
- To prepare the action plans and programs for air quality management and for emission reduction (part of both regional and local environmental action plans),
- To monitor air quality, and to inform the authorities and the public,
- To make sure that the data quality obtained is correct (assessment of the collecting system, proposition for better software acquisition, …).
During the former twinning, several downloadable guidelines were elaborated.
There are three main activities further to the above objectives which are developed during this second twinning project :
- Implementation of action plans and programs for the air quality management, the technical support for the air quality control being set at the end of 2007 in the four counties of the West Region,
- Optimisation of the European management system and the data transfer system on the web site via training and working groups sessions involving REPA and LEPA staff,
- Reviewing the green house gas emissions by setting a monitoring of the activities generating carbon dioxide, nitrogen or methane dioxide emissions, with effects on earth climate. Through the working groups, the project will be able to establish a technical support in order to adapt the local and regional tools to this climate change problem.
